Creating a Product

Now look at various ways you can create products

Now that you’ve identified one or maybe afew niches that you would like to concentrate on, and found a need to fill, it’s time to decide what to sell.

Your business idea may involve selling a service - that is you are going to actually do something for someone and they will pay you. Clean houses, wash cars, landscaping, etc all fit into this model. But unless you can demand a premium for your time, I would not suggest this type of service type business as you are exchanging your time for money, and it will take you away from your family and home.

There is a way to make the service type business work, and that is to leverage your time in certain niches that allow you to work from home - virtually so to speak. Web design, desktop publishing, writing, and even some consulting arrangements are good examples of this type of business.

If you are business idea involves selling a physical idea, you now have to look at the feasibility of creating it yourself. Some items can be easily be produced in the home with very little extra expense or space needed (various crafts, gift baskets, etc).

Other items could also be produced in a home workshop. Depending on the product, you may need to invest in certain equipment, and look at space requirements. Some ideas could be wood crafts like bird houses, benches, etc, or print products like business cards, brochures and flyers. Even canning, baking, clothing or quilts could all fit into this category.

We can also look at creating a non-physical product. What is that you ask? Well for starters, what you are reading is a non-physical product - a website. Other examples are reports, guides, e-books, audio and video. Many non-physical products could also lend themselves to be physical products and distributed directly to the customer.

There is a certain advantage to the non-physical product. By producing a digital information product, you can sell that same item to many many people, thus leverage your time. While at the same time, your costs are extremely low, as the cost to distribute digital media is almost neglible. This can lead to huge Return on Investment (ROI) and also large Return on your Labour and Time.
